Following the approval of the European Child Guarantee by the EU Council Recommendation of June 2021, the EU Commission has partnered with UNICEF to test it in seven Member states, including Italy. The 2 year pilot programme will contribute to develop a common framework through the drafting of Child Guarantee National Action Plans to prevent and reduce child poverty and social exclusion. Since July 2020, UNICEF has been working with the Italian Government and other key national and local stakeholders, including Civil Society Organizations and children- to implement the measure within the identified key areas and target groups. Among the latter there are also children with disabilities. In Italy, UNICEF - in cooperation with partners and the Government - is also supporting child and adolescent participation in the process of drafting, monitoring and assessing the Child Guarantee National Action Plan, through the creation of a Youth Advisory Board (YAB).
