Sin dalla prima rivoluzione industriale, le tradizionali relazioni tra spazio costruito e comunità hanno subito una trasformazione radicale, modi?cando al contempo il ruolo del progettista nella de?nizione degli spazi per la vita collettiva. Il modo in cui il progetto architettonico contemporaneo risponde alle esigenze delle comunità è investigato attraverso due esempi: Pilares Iztapalapa (Città del Messico) e Xihe Project (Henan Province). La ricerca indaga criticamente due approcci architettonici che affrontano s?de socio-spaziali in contesti diversi nei quali gli architetti svolgono il ruolo di mediatori della trasformazione, sia come ponte tra tradizioni locali ed esigenze contemporanee, sia progettando spazi che rafforzano identità e legami sociali.
