The Church and Galileo. Celebrations as a way to restore - The celebrations of the 400 years since Galileo’s celestial observations (1609-10) have been marked by a series of important exhibitions and congresses. Among these, that organized by the Jesuits of the Stensen Foundation in Florence (26-30 May 2009) stands out, in terms of the number and quality of the papers and the institutional setting (Santa Croce basilica, in the presence of the President of the Republic). Curiously, the congress did not discuss the object of the celebrations, but was focused on the relationship between science and faith that constituted the trial and condemnation of Galileo (1633). The article discusses the reasons for this. .
