The author aims to define the current legislative and political framework as far as work-life balance topics are concerned. The analysis is wide-ranging, approaching both the internal and the external dimension of the employment relationship. As for the first one, particular attention will be focused on the regulative framework of working time, contractual typologies and leaves from work. As for the latter, the analysis will highlight the topic of services, which will be classified according to whether they are supplied inside or outside the family unit. As a result, the analysis will point out the deep differences between the european and national dimension, the latter where the debate is flattened and the consensus, unanimous but merely apparent, merges with the shallowness of the approach and the lack of effectiveness. The lack concerns the traditional approach itself in the work-life balance field. Therefore, the projection within the area of role division between men and women is even harder.
