Regulation (EC) n. 765/2008 has introduced important and innovative changes for the accreditation and inspection bodies. This Regulation lays down rules on the organisation and operation of accreditation of conformity assessment bodies performing conformity assessment activities. The Regulation provides that each Member State shall appoint a single national accreditation body, including the food industry. Italy has designated Accredia as the sole body endorsed to carry out the Italian national accreditation and market surveillance relating to the marketing of products. The introduction of this system requires, at least in the food sector, coordination between all levels and sectors of competence, primarily in relation to control bodies of the Pdo and Pgi products.
