This essay reconstructs the few months (October 1945-June 1946) during which Manlio Lupinacci was lead editor of the Twentieth Century, the newspaper standing for the liberal right wing in Rome and aiming to aggregate the monarchists in view of the referendum taking place on 2 June 1946. The referendum actually ratified the defeat of monarchy and caused the newspaper closure immediately after the electoral result was formalized.
