At the University of Bologna in the 1980s-90s the videotape was experimented for research and training of psychiatry residents in the treatment of severe patients. Theoretical and clinical aspects of the use of videotape are discussed, in particular regarding the implications for countertransference. This paper was presented at the meeting "Memory and oblivion", organized in Bologna on March 12-16, 1992, by Leo de Berardinis (1939-2008), a central figure of the Italian experimental theatre of the 20th century.
