If mobility is the main and characteristic element of modernity, the taking away of a subject from its own mobility may be equivalent to constructing social isolation and segregation. Based on this assumption, this paper analyzes the theories of rationalistic city planning and the hypothesis of past modern city planning, looking also at shared urbanism. Our proposal emphasizes the urgent need of a new constant interdisci-plinary integration between analysis, planning, designing and management (Mura 1988). In this perspective institutions play a crucial role as far as communication is concerned, and health care institutions above all become essential. Through a short survey conducted in a town in Calabria, we shall investigate what is generally meant by "health city". In a mountain area, a substantial part of population, impaired and segregated due to geomorphic structure of the area, con-quered a new autonomy through a new planning of a "sustainable" environment.
