Il neo nominato sottotenente degli Ussari Winston S. Churchill prendeva parte, alla fine del secolo XIX, ad una spedizione punitiva britannica contro talune tribù afgane che, sconfinando in regioni del vicino impero indiano (oggi Pakistan) avevano com-messo razzie. Ne consegue un breve racconto, interessante in sé sotto il profilo storico, ma con richiami di attualità rispetto a quanto sta avvenendo oggi in tale regione.
