This article reviews the evolution of political polls in the past ten years. Before Berlusconi, a widespread scepticism, concerning the effective capability of polls to interpret Italian political reality, prevailed. When Berlusconi began to be engaged in politics, the relationship between politics and polls radically changed. Political polls, according to the author, are now run not only with the aim of knowing what the public votes, but they are also used as instruments of political communication. The supposed subjectivity of polls then becomes an instrument of propaganda. The author shows that, after an initial stage, also the other political forces have followed Berlusconi’s example. Today, the majority of polls are concerned with politics.
