Job loss is a life event, resulting in involuntary separations from a paid employment. Coping with job loss refers to cognitive and behavioral efforts to manage the internal and external demands posed by job loss (Latack, Kinicki, e Prussia, 1995). Many researches examined the effect of individual differences on use of job loss coping strategies, but few studies has investigated the role of cognitive appraisal in coping process. The present study has examined the impact on self-efficacy, casual attribution of reemployment and optimism on cognitive appraisal and well-being. The results show that causal attribution of reemployment mediates the relationship between self-efficacy and positive appraisal. Moreover, the impact of negative appraisal on optimism and well-being was found.
