In order to empirically analyze status uncertainty, the concepts of status incongruence and relative deprivation (Stouffer, Merton, Runcinan) were operatively defined. A low status level, marked by status incongruence and weighed down by relative deprivation, is associated with a representation of foreigners as a menace, and adherence to differentialistic ideologies
