The Author analyzes the Ingmar Bergman’s film After the rehersal (1985) as a homage to the great director recently died. This is an opportunity to review some of the main themes of the Bergman’s filmography, that we can find also in the last film Sarabanda (2005) already presented on Psicobiettivo. Particularly the Bergman’s research is oriented to authenticity as a problem of modern world and to the need of love in the western culture, influenced by the Luther protestant religion, as indicated by Max Weber. Women and artists are often the protagonists of Bergman works, because, more than others, they are able to feel the lack of autenticity and the consequent facing to Nothing, expressed in Kierkegard and Heidegger philosophy. In this article the main Bergman’s films are discussed: from Persona to The Silence to Fanny and Alexander, to Scenes from a marriage. Key Words: Bergman;, Film; Authenticity; Crisis; Nothing; Love; Communication; Protestantism; Faith; Liberty.
