The article investigates the complex theoretical transition from meta-ethics to ethics in both Rosenzweig’s Star of Redemption and the early Lukács’s unfinished book on Dostoevsky. An ideal continuity between Kantian ethics and Hegel’s universal history is highlighted and both perspectives are firmly rejected. In the extant fragments of his book, Lukács views them as closely related, since both descend from the notion of objective spirit. A notion that must be definitely abandoned if one wishes a new concept of responsibility to emerge.
