This paper deals with the formation period of two cosmopolitan and politically heterodox European intellectuals, the brothers Elie and Élisée Reclus, in the political, social and cultural context of Europe in the second half of the 19th century. The article divides the examined decennium in three fundamentals parts: the Cooperation in France, the International Workers Association and the Paris Commune. Its main scientific problem is to evaluate the importance of this parental, intellectual and political binomial, on the one hand for the elaboration of their anarchist idea; on the other hand, for the constitution of the milieu of scholars and militants who decisively contribute, in the following decades, to the geographical works and the social theories of the more known of the two brothers, Élisée.
Keywords: Elie Reclus, Élisée Reclus, Cooperation, Paris Commune, Republicanism, Anarchism.
