The road to hope - The review is devoted to the recent essay by Sandro Rinauro on the Italian migrants who travelled towards the rest of Europe (and particularly France) from 1945 to 1955. Even though such migration was supported by the Italian authorities, it consisted in large part of illegal migration encouraged by the private firms of the receiving countries and sustained by the migrants’ necessity to be free to change employment and place of stay. Consequently the efforts by European governments to tune the migration flows never worked.
