The 5th Conference of the Società italiana delle storiche (SIS), focused on the topic "New prospects of gender studies", was opened by Pauline Schmitt Pantel and Françoise Thébaud, whose papers summarized fortune and practice of the discipline, identifying guidelines, problems and possible developments. Another general session was devoted to the passage from the first generation of women scholars, highly innovative and politically committed in their research and studies, to a new and less militant one, with the corresponding changes of perspective. Marta Petrusewicz, eventually, analysed the 19th century debates on Land and Capital, emphasizing their tight connections with gender stereotypes. The many thematic sessions pointed out the crucial issues of gender studies, often with reference to other national realities: body and body care; female participation in public life; relations between women and work and women and deviance; female representation; attention to queer approach. The Conference successfully highlighted both the richness and the problems rising when trying to interlace branches with different methodologies and semantics.
