In order to distinguish those municipalities endowed with a substantive touristic attractiveness, a law dated 1919 created some "classements" in "stations" of six categories. A law dated 2006, entered into force from March 2009 simplifies the system, by decreasing it to 2 categories, accessible to more municipalities than before, through a simplified procedure. The reform, though, has not been accompanied by supplementary financial means, notwithstanding the expectations of the local representatives. Moreover, one can doubt that the modern tourist shall be sensitive to official touristic labels in the same way as he was in 1919.
