The article takes into consideration the large amount of papers and works about the implications of the Attachment Theory and its recent developments on the adults’ diagnosis and psychotherapy. Convergencies and differences with psychoanalytic theory and clynics are discussed here. The paper questions the usefulness of the classifications and measures derived from Strange Situation, Adult Attachment Interview and Reflexive Function Scale, Particularly, it points out the implications of the "language coherence" concept and the meaning of the "safety" concept within the Attachment Theory and in the psychoanalytic psychotherapy, first of all concerning the therapist’s role of "attachment figure". Finally, Bateman & Fonagy’s "therapy based on mentalization" and the dialectics between the "development of psychological fundamental functions", the exploration of conflicts and interpretations are taken into consideration.
