The aim of the research is to evaluate the results of Italian university teaching in viticulture and oenology with investigation into the professional outcomes of the graduates of two Italian universities. The research shows that the oenologists taught by the universities find jobs very rapidly, taking on positions of considerable responsibility and reasonably well paid. So far the demand for oenologists has come primarily from large-scale wine producers. Nevertheless we believe that in the future the job market will also be influenced by the small-medium size firms, which stand to gain many advantages from high level competences in the development of product quality.
