The paper proposes a connection between the territorial trajectories developed by changes of residence and commuting in a metropolis like Rome. The frequency with which people typically change their homes is obviously much larger than the frequency of daily mobility to work. However is conceivable that the hugeness of Rome’s territory, the imbalance and asymmetry in the spatial distribution of residences and production units and the inadequate communication infrastrustures, represent constraints on the movement of residents. Such constraints channel most of the trajectories along paths within similar portions of the city, both in the case of commuting and housing transfers.
