The author focuses on community vegetable gardens, different kinds of experiences that are going to reshape, at least partially, morphology and image of the city. More and more people move for a demand of urban green areas not only to admire or passively benefit them, but rather these are places in which actively participate, planning and promoting cultural and social activities. Although the presence of urban gardens – community vegetable gardens is not uncommon, nowadays they are characterized by particular features. These practices are local micro-processes which give rise to new forms of urbanity starting from inhabitants’ active involvement, increasing a sense of responsibility in managing these areas.
Keywords: Community vegetable gardens, urban regeneration, active participation, public space, waste places, conviviality
