Cancer patients experience high levels of psychological distress, especially during the phases of diagnosis and treatments. The present study aims to evaluate the efficacy of a com- plementary and alternative intervention in reducing anxiety, depression, anger and stress in female cancer patients. 62 patients have been randomized to experimental and control group. Experimental group received an integrated intervention of music therapy and psychological holding in group format during the infusion of chemotherapy. The Emotional Thermometers Tool has been used before and after the session to measure the impact of the intervention. Stress, anxiety, depression and anger were found significantly reduced in the experimental group. Anxiety and stress were found reduced in the control group. The need oh help of the experimental group was more effectively satisfied after the intervention. Music therapy and psychological holding has been found useful in reducing emotional distress in the sample. The use of complementary therapies as supportive care should be given more attention.
