The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between Hedache, Temperament Dimension, and Behaviour in a sample of children that came to the Neuropsychiatric outpatients in Rome. They are 150 children, 90 males and 60 females, aged 6-11 years, who had come to the service during 2011-2012. Behaviour problems were evaluated through the Child Behaviour Check List (CBCL) and Temperament Dimensions through the "Questionario Italiano del Temperamento" (QUIT). QUIT and CBCL were administrate to children’s parents. The diagnoses had been made according to International Systems of Classification both for Headache (ICHD II criteria). Migraine and Tension Headache showed a very similar for the main scales of the CBCL, with a statistically significant tendency to show problems in the Internalizing scale to the Tension Headache, and problems in the Esternalizing (behavioural) to the Migraine. Headache is one of the most common neurological symptom reported in childhood, leading to high levels of school absences and being associated with several comorbid conditions. In general, Migraine and Tension Headache are associated with depression, anxiety disorders, and ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder). The results, supported by literature, seem to support the hypothesis about relation between Headache, and Psychopathological Behaviour. Development of Psychopathology in subject with certain temperament profile is not a fixed route. Then our skill in daily work is the identification of that subject at risk both for temperament or environmental factors. The early identification of this risk factors could allow for the possibility of early interventions that could potentially shift children away from more pathological trajectories.
