The topic of this article is the development of social professions. Social professions have been introduced in the 80’s in public policies in order to fulfil and update the Welfare policies in the post-modern society. That means also a new relationship between the sociology of professions and the empirical social science. Referring the current working conditions of social professions, they are characterized by a high degree of flexibility and uncertainty, because of the labour market reforms. They have a bad influence particularly on women’s and young people’s working conditions. A lot of women are working in social professions. Young people who have a special skill in social profession and would like to be working in this sector, have a lot of problems in finding a job in this field. Another issue is the relationship between social professions and volunteering associations and its role in implementing public policies.
