In considering the limited presence of women in decision-making boards of sport organization and university education (International Working Group on Women and Sport, 2012; Guidotti et al., 2012) and the growing need of gender equality in responsibility positions (European Commission, 2010), this paper addresses the issue of equal opportunities in sport careers and in academics through a quantitative and qualitative approach. Therefore, qualitative and quantitative analyses of women managers’ and university professors’ opinions disclosed the persistence of gender differences in Italian sport organizations and academics. The need of mentoring, networking, and equal opportunity policies emerged as a means to enhance gender equity mainstreaming.
