The article describes the women’s sports practice in Italy after the second world war. This issue could be still considered as a sort of mysterious topics, belonging both to sociology of sport and gender studies too. So it is important to underline its evolution and history considering some cultural and social factors showed by data and statistics. More specifically, the author analyses the domain of the so called grassroots sport in comparison with the performance oriented and competitive activities by the point of view of gender. In this perspective one could deepen also the importance of other social dynamics such as the women’s rights evolution or changes concerning sport in general. In particular the focus is put on the role of media and politics in order to change step by step the relationship between women and sport at large.
