This essay illustrates the questions that occur most frequently today in the debate about minors’ rights, referring to interdisciplinary, socio-legal, sociological and philosophical literature and paying specific attention to the recent work of Italian authors. Some of these questions recall issues that already featured in scholars’ writings immediately after the adoption of the UN Convention in 1989, in particular with regard to how appropriate the language of rights is to children. Others focus on new perspectives such as children’s activities, their cognitive and moral skills, their individual and social responsibility and the latent function of social control that is said to be fulfilled by children’s rights. The author also stresses the close political, cultural and practical relationships between these rights and the development of the sociology of infancy
