The author analizes some novels in order to observe how the characters activate psychic dynamics based on recognition, mentalization, narcissism and mirroring. These mechanisms shape their identity and structure the relations with the other characters. The literary space is a kind of laboratory where are staged, in a nearly experimental way, emotions, thoughts, defences, and interpersonal relations that reproduce the same daily-life phenomenons. It’s a mirror in which the author and the reader reflect themselves in an empathetic way and realize the process of metamentalization.
