This article focuses on the way the Arab-Israeli-Palestinian conflict has been perceived and described by Italy’s Left-Wing press from the Six-Day war (5-11 June 1967) to the Yom Kippur war (6-25 October 1973). It takes into consideration the Pci’s newspaper L’Unità, the Psiup’s Mondo nuovo, the Psi’s Avanti!, the Psdi’s Umanità, the Pri’s La Voce repubblicana, as well as Il Manifesto and Lotta continua, representing two other groups of Italy’s extra-parliamentary Left formed in the wake of the 1968 events. The article analyses, in particular, the assessment of the third Arab-Israeli war given by these newspapers, as well as their point of view about such main issues as the Middle Eastern conflict and the circumstances that hampered a peaceful settlement; Israel’s politics; Nasser’s regime in Egypt and the Ba’athist one in Syria; Zionism and Arab socialism; the re-emerging of the Palestinian question and the phenomenon of Palestinian terrorism. Finally, the essay refers also to the Leftist press point of view about the fourth Arab-Israeli war and the following energy crisis.
