The essay analyzes the year 1977 from the point of view of industrial workers and trade unions. The main question raised is whether 1977 was a breakthrough for blue-collar workers, as it was for the young people. In 1977 the young people harshly criticized the values of their society; young workers, however, only began to compromise their position in factories in 1979, within the context of a deep transformation of industrial relations. 1979, then, was the trues year of change for blue-collar workers
