This article discusses on the multitude of spontaneous phenomena which Gabriele Mina categorised as "Babelic constructions" and offers a new reading of them in the light of their connections with the area and landscape they emerge from, in line with the sanctioning of different cultural frontiers carried out by the Outsider Art. The article provides a historical reconstruction of the phenomenon, along with its theoretical implications, and suggests landscape as a valuable interpretative category. The theoretical apparatus is applied to two emblematic cases: Sam Rodia’s Watts Towers in Watts, Los Angeles, and Giovanni Cammarata’s "la casa del puparo" in Maregrosso, a suburban neighbourhood in Messina in search of an identity reformulation in a process of revenge and relive.
