This chapter analyses the Child protection system and its legislative framework. The issues of family support and the quality of alternative care setting are explained. It also highlights the quality of the psychological and socio-environ-mental assessment of the risk and possible damage to children made by professionals working in the local social and social-health services, of the institution of family foster care and of the children’s houses, small family-type communities characterized by organization and relationships similar to those of a family. The main provisions developed to guarantee that children without parental care have access to services are also illustrated. The chapter closes by underlining the specific mechanisms and procedures adopted in the protection system and in the judicial proceedings - Civil and Criminal proceedings - to listen to minors.
