This essay reconstructs the strategies of State and Nation building implemented by Ferdinand of Bourbon during the British Decade. Through the Journal written by the king between 1812 and 1815, and thanks to his correspondence with the most visible historical figures on the international scene, it has been possible to reconstruct a new portrait of this sovereign, who was able to regain control over his territories by overcoming the opposition of the Sicilian ruling classes, routing his competitors, and implementing a complex modernization project of the Kingdom, which involved the administrative rejuvenation, the economic recovery, and the practices and languages of the New Politics.

Keywords: Bourbons, Parliament, Sicily, Italian Mezzogiorno, Restoration.
