The Author, by means of a short overview of the historical and political events following World War II, highlights the impact of politics on economics, and how the latter intervenes on the market, cyclically creating advantages and disadvantages for its operators. The market comprises a number of operations; their existence is very delicate, and rules are required if their balance is to be maintained. These rules can also include the intervention of government in the economy, not as expression of full statism, but due to the need for balanced solutions. Therefore, when we say "free market", we do not refer to a market without rules - if we assume the ability of the market itself to measure producers’ efficiency and to provide the best goods and services at the lowest prices - on the contrary, we refer to a market with strict rules that are applied promptly in order to guarantee the correct functioning of the law of supply and demand.
