It examines the c.d. "Stendhal syndrome" from a psychopathological point of view, arguing the legitimacy of the use of the term "syndrome", not in the medical sense of an exclusive set of symptoms but in the general sense that simply means "competition", "affluence" and "confluence" even of different factors. In psychiatry, attempting to validate DSM categories on a syndromic basis in a purely medical sense has had an adequate success, identifying valuable cadres and stability similar to others in medicine. The attempt instead of clarifying a "specific" underlying etiopathogenesis, in order to identify "diseases", generally appears to have failed. Including in the syndromes some etiopathologic factors, such as "Stendhal Syndrome", can identify complex disorders if psychopathology is meant to be dynamic and anthropological.
