In the months following the liberation of Rome, during the transition period from Fascism to democracy, collections of political essays proliferated. These collections were the products of small publishing houses and were a sign of clear antifascism. Some of them - such as "Pensiero politico italiano" by Sestante, "Politica" by Capriotti and "Saggi" by Atlantica - are particularly interesting, and included Italian and European classic political essays by Balbo, Cattaneo, Montanelli, Minghetti, Constant, De Staël, Saint-Simon, and Proudhon. Their titles and introductions, written by intellectuals involved in Italy’s political transformation, demonstrate the richness of interests and the importance of recovering European and Italian classic political essays. In fact, the issues they dealt with were particularly topical and represented not only ideal political references, but also became an occasion to reflect on the political past and present.
