This section intends to present, analyse and discuss the ‘community hub phenomenon’ as an indicator of a possible change of paradigm in urban regeneration processes in Italy. Starting from some common features, community hubs point at a field of action that is polysemous and ‘heterodox’. Taking the cue from a national debate arisen since 2016, editors and contributors of this series of articles aim to increase a scientific inter-disciplinary perspective, articulate an actors’ and active views’ geography (professionals, policy makers, enablers, designers and pratictioners), and finally link community hub topic to capacity building and to ‘enabling complex interventions policy making’, today expression of a changing and ‘self guiding’ civil society.
