The author proposes a cross analysis of the conditions that led to the foundation of the Mothers of Plaza de Mayo in Argentina (1977) and of the Movement of the Victims of State Crimes (MOVICE) in Colombia (2005), considering them as paradigmatic examples of collective political subjects engaged in the recomposition of historical and political memory; as actors in their own processes of transitional justice; and as protagonists in the construction of international human rights law.
Keywords: Transitional justice, Historical memory, Social movements, International human rights law, Latin American history, History of the present time
