Fibromyalgia (FM) is a Functional Somatic Syndrome characterized by widespread musculoskeletal pain, fatigue, sleep disturbance and psychological distress. The aim of the present paper is to discuss the application of the brief dynamic therapy in FM. This therapy is inspired on the Brief Dynamic Interpersonal Therapy model, which is based on the concepts of stress regulation, attachment and mentalization. In particular, it has been described its application in FM patients in an Italian hospital unit. The present paper, moving by theoretical premises, describes its clinical application underling the possibility and the utility of psychological treatment for FM patients’ interpersonal problems.
