The paper deals with the planimetric arrangment of the residential buildings for the low income people and the middle class. This is a prominent feature of the 1940s and 1960s architecture in Barcelona. The latter got a specific identity as concerns expression and language due to historical reasons connected with resistance against Franchism. Behind languages there was a robust typological structure as well that lays in layout models whose effectiveness has been lasting more than sixty years later. In Barcelona due to the relationship between real estate speculation and dictatorship modernist architects did not have any chance to work on the urban fabric so that the apartments and planimetric layout of housing buildings were the only opportunity to set an (indirect) dialogue with the morphology of the city.
