The correlation between archives and historiography has become more and more essential due to the renewal of the theology on Church (ecclesiology) and subsequent changing of the topics of research: from the history of the institutions to the history of the Christian people. Accordingly, both the historical research and archives benefited from an advantageous condition. The former has triggered the organization of the archival collections; the latter have given a great deal of material to work on, in order to bring to light events that at that time were considered minor and ancillary, however subsequently revealed to have a certain degree of importance. In this process, the Archival Ecclesiastical Association (founded in 1956) has played a primary role, favoring both the archival culture and historical research. This renewal has also profited the archives and Sicilian historiography.
