This study involves a representative sample of Italian emerging adults and analyses their commitment to two forms of volunteering: continuous volunteering and episodic volunteering. On the basis of their commitment to voluntary service (past or current experiences of volun-teering), the study compares their levels of civic engagement, trust, attitude towards politics and subjective wellbeing. The results sketch the picture of an engaged young generation (72.6% of the participants have past or current experiences of volunteering) both in continuous and/or episodic volunteering. These results led the researchers to hypothesise the existence of a process of innovation and increased flexibility in the ways emerging adults approach partici-pation and civic engagement, as well as in the modalities of engagement in voluntary service.
