While the recent 80th anniversary saw the publication of some research on Italian judges and the Racial Laws, there is still a great deal of work to be done on what exactly happened to the Jews who worked in the judiciary itself. Their exclusion from the State pushed them to the margins of a bourgeois society which was heavily Fascistised; nevertheless, 15 of the 16 who were expelled stayed in Italy, and in the period 1943-1945 almost all survived. This article reconstructs the experiences and trajectories of the individuals concerned and is based on a wide array of original or, in some cases, only partly used, documents.
