The contribution proposes a change in the theoretical perspective of how homophobic bullying has been treated so far. Rather than analysing it as a peculiar form of bullying, characterized by homophobia, it proposes to read homophobic bullying as a peculiar form of homophobia, which has the school as a theatre. The peculiar characteristics of homophobic bullying that result from the scientific literature are first described: it is acted primarily by males, mostly to the detriment of other males and, above all, in adolescence. This description is compared with the research on homophobic violence cases widespread in society, which appear to have mostly young males as protagonists. Finally, starting from the analysis of chronicles of homophobic assaults carried out by individuals or groups, we find interpretative elements of homophobic bullying and propose operational directions of a pedagogical nature.
Keywords: Bullying, homophobia, masculinity, adolescence, group dynamics
