The relation between migration and pandemics can be understood as the complex interaction between two "total social facts", one of a continuous and structural nature, the other unexpected and traumatic. The linkages between the two phe-nomena are biunivocal and change over time. Drawing upon the quickly expand-ing empirical base generated since the outbreak of COVID-19, the author provides an interdisciplinary overview of these interactions and highlights some theoretical implications. The articles included in this special issue are presented and a roadmap for future research is sketched.
