This article reconstructs the events which led to the establishment of a Faculty of Economics at the University of Pavia in the late Fifties and early Sixties, within the context of the socalled Italian economic miracle. Under the pressing request of the economic players of the province of Pavia, a complicated political and administrative process was set in motion, in which a variety of public and private actors were involved, such as local academic and political authorities, banks, and the Chamber of commerce, as well as a handful of officials and high-profile politicians in Rome.
Keywords: Chamber of commerce, Faculty of Economics, late Fifties and early Sixties, Italian economic miracle, University of Pavia.
