The "energy populism" generally refers to the link between local protests against green en-ergy policies and the growing electoral consensus towards ‘populist’ movements in rural and marginal areas. The article investigates the energy populism through qualitative research on wind energy in the Basilicata region (Southern Italy). The data show the complexity and ambi-guity of this phenomenon, and they suggest that it is fueled by a deficit of social and political recognition of marginal areas.
Keywords: political parties, populism, rural areas, social acceptability, social movements, wind energy
