In Europe, the landscape has been consolidated as a renewed argument to demand an ethical approach to land management. Covered by the European Landscape Convention, the landscape is already confirmed as the current challenge of regional planning. From the review of different European practices involved with this issue, this text highlights the central role of the heritage in achieving the challenges posed by the landscape view and argues the need to establish synergies with research that advances a strategy of heritage knowledge based on digital representation and visualization. These techniques can effectively contribute to the incorporation of the social dimension in the regional planning, as demanded by the landscape approach.
Keywords: landscape planning; digitized heritage; citizenship participation
