Informal reports and research contributions have informed the complex frame of working practices determined by the sudden adoption of remote work to contrast the spread of the pandemic crisis. This contribution focuses on the theme of reconciliation between life domains, an element widely associated with well-being, in the specification of academic teaching-research staff. Through a study carried out in the first months of 2021, 2365 professors-researchers from about twenty Italian universities took part in an online survey promoted by the National Conference of Equalization Bodies of Italian Universities in collaboration with the national research group Saph2@work. The research highlights an increase in the conflict between life and work time, particularly perceived by women, which risks to amplify the gender inequalities that persist in the academy. The results suggest a critical discussion of models of academic work aimed at thematising recent transformations. Furthermore, the study’s empirical evidence can contribute to the elaboration of measures that the decision-making bodies of academic governance are called upon to adopt in terms of equity and inclusion policies through the implementation of Gender Equality Plans.
